Séminaire interne: Exploring the head direction system in Danionella Cerebrum / TBA

Par Par Manon Carrière / Mathéo Aksil

Manon Carrière: Exploring the head direction system in Danionella Cerebrum Head direction (HD) cells are neurons that activate maximally when an animal faces a specific, cell-dependent direction. Together, they operate as a “neuronal compass” for spatial representation. HD circuits are thought to possess the architecture of ring attractors, networks with local excitation and global inhibition that generate a stable bump of activity encoding head orientation. What plasticity rules orchestrate the maturation of such subtle circuits during development remains an open question. As a first step, we aim to identify and characterize HD circuits in Danionella cerebrum (DC), a small, quasi-transparent freshwater fish that enables whole-brain calcium imaging across development.
